Amateur photographers look at the work of someone like Ansel Adams, and while realizing they'll never match up to the talents of somebody like Adams, still wish they had the time to wait for just the right combination of light, clouds, and other elements to get the shot they'd like to. Well, even an amateur sometimes gets lucky, as I did on March 17, 2007. My wife and I got out of bed at 1:45AM, drove to the top of Haleakala on the Hawaii island of Maui, and waited in the incredibly cold darkness for the sun to rise. We were blessed with just enough clouds in the east for the sun to dance with. It was incredible! The last shot in the sequence was looking west - the largest shadow I'll ever see!
